Emotion
Emotion in two villanelles.
IV.
One afternoon I went and bought myself a heart.
The sun was hot. The wind blew light.
It wobbled brightly in the cart.
A smile began to start across my face, all tart.
Toward my car, I strode upright.
One afternoon I went and bought myself a heart.
As I turned back toward the mart,
My chest began to seem tight.
It wobbled brightly in the cart.
Eyes down, I had ribs all apart,
Blood flowing out in delight.
One afternoon I went and bought myself a heart.
Hands to my chest, I laughed at such a spare part
Sitting immobilized by plight,
It wobbled brightly in the cart.
For removal was always my art,
And on I drove without fright.
One afternoon I went and bought myself a heart.
It wobbled brightly in the cart.
V.
Glistening shy beneath her eye,
From the hills, trickling down,
A shadow I could spy.
Lashes flickering with a sigh,
I couldn't help but drown,
Glistening shy beneath her eye.
Tears coming down dry,
I couldn't help but drive her crown,
A shadow I could spy.
Sharp edges beneath a starry sky,
I stared upon a misty gown,
Glistening shy beneath her eye.
Deep within the city nearby,
An amber shine enlightened her frown,
A shadow I could spy.
A light shown through my woolen ply,
Igniting the night in sundown,
Glistening shy beneath her eye,
A shadow I could spy.
